Having Yahoo and Hotmail Problems?

by on Nov.15, 2011

July 6, 2007, brought out email issues with various Hotmail and Yahoo! accounts. They have been hijacked and are sending spam messages. We’re not talking about just a few spam e-mails here, either. They have been sending out thousands upon thousands since the beginning of it. Also, just in case you’re wondering, this information is coming from the security firm of BitDefender. Now that you are aware of the problem, let’s learn more about it, k?

The reason this is taking place is because Hotmail and Yahoo! Have been hit by a new Trojan virus called Trojan.Spammer.HotLan.A. Once the Trojan hits either a Hotmail or Yahoo! Account, it starts generating spam messages and sends them out with your ID with it; moreover, the Trojan is also generating new Webmail accounts automatically. On top of all that, the malware has also found a way to get past the CAPTCHA tests that are used for anti-spamming purposes. This is what’s happening. The Trojan accesses a Webmail account and then it finds encrypted spam messages to use. Then it decrypts those messages so that they are sent out to any legitimate e-mail address it can find. Users can be hit unexpectedly and very quickly if they don’t keep their eyes open. That includes you if you have a Hotmail or Yahoo! Account. But fret nyet.

The e-mail you’ll see inside your in-box is from a Web site that is trying to sell pharmacy products. This is something that can be tempting for some and it can seem very legit. It’s easy for the Trojan to confirm your e-mail address. It then collects more information by rooting through your contacts list. As of now, according to the head of the BitDefender antivirus lab, approximately 500 new accounts are being created every hour. Presently, over 15,000 Hotmail and Yahoo! Accounts have been used. Therefore, it’s really hard to determine how many spam e-mails have gone out, because the Trojan is able to multiply them without any trouble.

How you can help ward off this Trojan is for you to update and run your spyware and antivirus programs more often until it is controlled.

I don’t use a Hotmail or Yahoo account because they are not accepted in real business dealings.

Yahoo and Hotmail accounts are always used by the Nigerian 419ers.

My ISP is contracted with yahoo servers and I’m not all that fond of the idea but did they consult with me about it beforehand? Oh but Noooooooo! Both my main addy and my yahoo account are essentially one and the same, doggone it. I don’t use Hotmail. It’s more trouble than its worth.
