In fact, many, if, not most, folks enjoy solitude. Loneliness is a sense of missing and longing for some kind of human interaction (even if you are in a crowd or in an “empty shell marriage”). The kind of contact missed varies greatly such as, one could miss one particular person or one kind of social interaction (e.g. at work or old friends or emotional intimacy in a love relationship) or social activity in general. Indeed, some writers distinguish between social loneliness, which is not being part of a group of friends, and emotional loneliness, which is not being intimate with or able to depend on anyone. Aloneness can also be spiritual –a feeling of separation from God–or existential –an awareness of our individual separateness. All forms of aloneness contribute to depression. Existentialists believe, as did Thoreau, that aloneness is the human condition meaning that we are born alone, we alone direct our lives, and we, in the same sense, die alone. Sure, lives touch and even join for a while, but you remain a separate person. These therapists say that being alone is important for gaining perspective and growth (Moustakas, 1961). Thus, they distinguish between loneliness, which is wholesome, and the fear of being alone. It is real scary feeling alone filled with the feelings of void. Some people are people addicts, they can’t stand to be alone. Most learn to be one’s own best friend. One only gets to realize and know one’s capacity of being one’s own “best friend” when one is alone and not participating in any type of social roles or expectations.

Nightmares are similarly bitter yet a needed medicine. They often represent opportunities for personal healing through much-needed emotional release like those who are afraid to feel their emotions and end up stuffing them. On this note, they warn of current behaviors that need adjustment; that is, if those unpleasant dreams repeat or worsen. Sometimes, such imbalances resolve themselves as the dream develops into a waking thought and we unknowingly overreact to the dis-ease inappropriately while in an awakened state thusly creating an issue that would not have existed if not for the overreation. This manifests as a wake up call and that it is time to make a personal change through therapeutic exploration.

If one chooses to ignore such subconscious warnings repeatedly, life events will speak more “loudly” in order to get one’s immediate attention thus encouraging other related events into our waking hours. They are often called “daymares”. These daymares show up as sickness, accidents, relationship difficulties or other unfortunate circumstances will force a solution to whatever issue is at hand. Sometimes, using psychoanalysis will assist in one discovering the most often longtime buried emotions especially if one has been subconsciously taught – don’t talk, don’t trust, don’t feel.

It is ok to feel the feelings and to learn about who you are from exploring them. Once explored with inclusion as to what events are attached to these same feelings, release them into a hobby, sport, dance, or whatever works well for you but use that energy so that it serves you instead of allowing it to make you either mentally or physically ill.

Received as a kind reminder from a kind gal pal:
Message of the Day
Life is short, Break some rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss kinda slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile. Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we’re here we should dance.

‘Til next time – Sweet Dreams

Personality is vital to defining who we are as individuals. It involves a unique blend of traits including attitudes, thoughts, behaviors, and moods. It is how we express these traits in our contacts with other people and the world around us. Some characteristics of an individual’s personality are inherited, and some are shaped by life events and experiences. A personality disorder can develop if certain personality traits become too rigid and inflexible. Additionally, people with personality disorders have long-standing patterns of thinking and acting that differ from what society considers usual or normal. The inflexibility of their personality can cause great distress, and can interfere with many areas of life, including social and work functioning. People with personality disorders generally also have poor coping skills and difficulty forming healthy relationships.

Unlike people with anxiety disorders who know they have a problem but are unable to control it, people with personality disorders generally are not aware that they have a problem and do not believe they have anything to control and since they do not believe that they have a disorder, people with personality disorders often do not seek treatment.

Read about the Schizoid disorder of the self. It is very different from what you’ll find on the net. It is based on individual experiences in combination with esteemed professional literature.

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly and soon a small opening appeared. For several hours he sat and watched the butterfly as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther.

The man not knowing but wanting to help the butterfly took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand enough to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. But, neither one happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

In his kindness and haste the man did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggling required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were nature’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Moral of the story?
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If nature allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, we would become crippled. We would not be as strong as what we could have and should have been. Without resistance, we can not fly. Freedom and flight will only come after we first struggle with building the strength we need for the flight itself.
