California controller to suspend tax refunds, welfare checks, student grants: John Chiang announced that his office will suspend $3.7 billion in payments owed to Californians starting Feb. 1, because with no budget in place the state lacks sufficient cash to pay its bills.

California has operated in the red for decades and it will take much more than this to locate the zero. Blame Schwarzenegger for this problem all you want however he voluntarily walked into this mess. Blame him for his idealistic beliefs, if anything. The rest is simply the result of political history.

Men And Depression

Men are different than women when it comes to being depressed. Yet, when women become depressed, they reach out and share the pain. But when men get down in the dumps, they withdraw, go stoic, or act out in some way.

Many men will do anything to stay in the game, which is why so many try to avoid the more typical symptoms of depression, such as experiencing feelings of sadness, anxiety, guilt, and worthlessness. Often, however, they can’t avoid other symptoms like trouble with sleeping, concentrating, remembering, or changes in appetite and energy levels. On the other hand, there are other symptoms that are especially hard for depressed men to avoid manifesting; they include angry, violent, reckless, or compulsive behavior, digestive problems, and physical pain.

The Awakening-The Moment of Clarity

A time comes in your life when you finally get it…when, in the midst of all your fears and insanity, you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere the voice inside your head cries out – ENOUGH! Enough fighting and crying or struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after a blind tantrum, your sobs begin to subside, you shudder once or twice, you blink back your tears and begin to look at the world through new eyes. This is your awakening.

You realize it’s time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change or for happiness, safety and security to come galloping over the next horizon.You come to terms with the fact that you are neither Prince Charming nor Cinderella and that in the real world there aren’t always fairy tale endings (or beginnings for that matter) and that any guarantee of “happily ever after” must begin with you…and, in the process, a sense of serenity is born of acceptance.

You awaken to the fact that you are not perfect and that not everyone will always love, appreciate or approve of who or what you are and, that’s OK. They are entitled to their own views and opinions.

Slowly, you begin to take responsibility for yourself by yourself and you make yourself a promise to never betray yourself and to never, ever settle for less than your heart’s desire.

You hang a wind chime outside your window so you can listen to the wind. You get on your knees in order to hear the grass grow. You make it a point to keep smiling, to keep trusting, and to stay open to every wonderful possibility. Finally, with courage in your heart and the Creator by your side – you take a stand, you take in a deep breath, and you begin to design the life you want and to live it as best as you can.

Most believe that I’m psycho, errrr, I mean psychic, yet, all kidding aside, I’ve been a strong empath since childhood. And no, I’m not psychic at all. I’m extremely sensitive to my surroundings and to other people- not allergic, mind you, just sensitive. The adults in my childhood years noticed my “difference” even then.

I’m happy that they didn’t try to snuff me off as was done during the Salem Witch trials. Instead, I was shunned as if I had leprosy. I was “different” than the other kids my age. Adults recognize how insightful I am even now. I don’t know how it works but it’s kept me alive through many of life’s harrowing moments.

"Americans Hold Four Different Images of God"

A Baylor Universtity study “found that Americans hold four different images of God,” London’s Times reports:

Nearly a third of Americans, 31.4 per cent, believe in an Authoritarian God, angry at earthly sin and willing to inflict divine retribution–including tsunamis and hurricanes. . . .

At the other end of the scale is the Distant God, seen by 24.4 per cent as a faceless, cosmic force that launched the world but leaves it alone. . . .

The Benevolent God, popular in America’s Midwest among mainstream Protestants, Catholics and Jews, is one that sets absolute standards for man, but is also forgiving–engaged but not so angry. Caring for the sick is high on the list of priorities for these 23 per cent of believers. . . .

The Critical God, at 16 per cent, is viewed as the classic bearded old man, judgmental but not going to intervene or punish, and is popular on the East Coast.

That adds up to 94.8%, which leaves some room for other conceptions of God. Here are some we thought of:

Totalitarian God: He is everywhere, and he is watching you.
Multitasking God: Answers prayers by phone, fax and BlackBerry, all at the same time.
Noncommittal God: Loves his children, but isn’t “in love” with them.
